TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: YOGYAKARTA AIRPORT – ACCOMMODATION IN BOROBUDUR AREA
The tour will start from the airport in Yogyakarta then our staff will meet you there and we will drive from Yogyakarta Airport to your hotel in the Borobudur temple area for staying overnight.
Note: We highly recommend arriving in the morning/before midday, we can do a city tour such as visiting Prambanan temple, Sultan Palace, Water Castle, and any other additional activity.
Important Update on Borobudur, Prambanan Temple & Sultan Palace
Please note the following updates for your visit to these iconic landmarks:
- Borobudur Temple
- Access to the top of Borobudur Temple is no longer permitted, and sunrise/sunset tours on the temple itself have been discontinued.
- Visitors can now explore and admire the temple from designated areas with a specific ticket, which we will arrange for you if you book with us.
- We will visit alternative spots such as Setumbu Hill or Dagi Hill for sunrise views. The differences between these locations are detailed in the itinerary provided.
- Sultan Palace (Kraton Yogyakarta)
- The palace is closed every Monday.
- On regular days, it is open to visitors until 14:00 only.
- Prambanan Temple (it’s also closed on Monday)

DAY 2: BOROBUDUR TEMPLE TOUR – ACCOMMODATION IN THE MOUNT BROMO AREA ( BY TRAIN FROM YOGYAKARTA)
The second day of the trip will start at 4:30 a.m. from your stay in the Borobudur temple area, and we will go to Setumbu Hill to watch the sunrise. Setumbu Hill is a viewpoint situated northwest of Borobudur, offering a stunning panoramic view of the temple, mountains, and its surroundings. This hill is very famous for some photographers because you can see the top of Borobudur temple at sunrise (if the weather allows).
Upon your arrival around 5:00 AM, our local team will help you navigate the best viewpoints on Setumbu Hill, Setumbu Hill is not a difficult hike, the trek takes about 10 minutes from the parking place, and you should reach the viewpoint just before sunrise.
Optional Program:
Waiting for sunrise at Dagi Hill, this activity includes breakfast, beanbags, a table, and a view toward Borobudur Temple itself, if you want to apply this one, please let us know during the booking because they limit the visitors per day.
After enjoying the sunrise and taking in the beauty of the temple, you can return to Borobudur. You can explore the temple in detail, learning about its history and significance.
Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take your time to explore its intricate stone carvings and reliefs, which depict Buddhist teachings and stories. Additionally, be respectful of the site and its spiritual significance while visiting. This tour provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the architectural and natural beauty of Borobudur and the surrounding area. Don’t forget to immerse yourself in the local culture, interact with the people, and taste local Javanese food and snacks in the area.
After the trip, we will back to our hotel, to have breakfast and take a shower before continuing our next tour. Then, we will drive to Tugu Train Station because the train leaves Yogyakarta around 13:38 and arrives at Surabaya Gubeng Train Station around 17:35. After arriving at Surabaya Gubeng train station, our staff will meet you at Surabaya Gubeng Train Station and then continue our trip to the Mount Bromo area, it takes about 3 hours drive but we will stop for having dinner in the local restaurant before we enter Mount Bromo area because there will be fewer choices place to eat up there.
Note: You can buy lunch at the train station or restaurant before the station and bring it on the train, because inside the train, not many choices for food.
DAY 3: MOUNT BROMO TOUR – HOTEL IN KALIBARU HIGHLAND
Mount Bromo tour starts at 3:30 AM (earlier on weekends). The jeep takes you to Kingkong Hill the most famous viewpoint, where you can see the best sunrise in East Java with mountains and volcanoes in the background. Afterward, we continue to the sea of sands, where you can cross it by horse (optional) or foot and reach the stairs leading to the peak of Mount Bromo. Enjoy the volcanic activity and return to your jeep for breakfast, shower, packing, and loading bags into the car. We’ll continue to Kalibaru Highland for about 5-6 hours, passing small villages, rural landscapes, rice fields, and plantations. Upon arrival, you’ll stay overnight at Margo Utomo Cottages or a similar hotel with plantations and a nice view.
DAY 04: KALIBARU HOTEL – ECO PLANTATIONS TOUR (AROMA TOUR) – SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH (B, L, D)
After breakfast at your hotel, you will have the opportunity to embark on an eco-tour of plantations in the Kalibaru area at approximately 08:00 AM. This tour program will involve a brief trekking excursion through 9 hectares of plantations, where you will have the chance to sample a variety of spices, including nutmeg, cloves, pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa, coffee, and coconuts. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to witness the traditional process of making palm sugar from the sap of palm trees. Before the tour, you will also have the chance to visit a dairy farm. The tour can be arranged in the morning and typically takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. Afterward, we will continue our journey to Sukamade turtle beach.
- Transfer to Sukamade Turtle Beach
At approximately 10:30 AM, we’ll begin the drive to Sukamade Turtle Beach, a scenic journey of over 2 hours. After Midday, we’ll stop in Rajegwesi Village for lunch. From there, switch to a local jeep for the final stretch, which takes 1–1.5 hours through lush rainforests and river crossings. Upon arrival, you can explore the tranquil surroundings and, if the weather allows, enjoy a stunning sunset on Sukamade Beach.
Optional Stop: Green Bay (Teluk Hijau)
Weather permitting, we’ll make a 2-hour stop at Green Bay, a hidden gem with pristine white sand and turquoise waters. This serene beach is perfect for swimming or simply soaking up the sun. A 20-minute downhill trek is required to reach the beach.
- Evening: Turtle Nesting Observation
After dinner at your guesthouse, the highlight of the day awaits. At 8:00 PM, guided by rangers from the Turtle Foundation and the Natural Resources Conservation team, you’ll head to Sukamade Beach to observe sea turtles nesting.
The rangers will provide instructions on how to respectfully witness this natural process, ensuring minimal disturbance to the turtles. This rare opportunity allows you to support vital conservation efforts while experiencing the awe-inspiring beauty of nature.
Sukamade Turtle Beach Highlights
Sukamade Beach is one of Indonesia’s most significant turtle nesting sites, hosting four of the six species of sea turtles found in the country.
Witnessing these majestic creatures lay their eggs under the cover of night is a profoundly moving experience. It’s incredible to imagine their journey, traveling thousands of kilometers across oceans, guided by instinct, to return to this very beach to lay their eggs.
Accommodation at Sukamade Beach
Accommodations is simple and basic, prioritizing the conservation mission over comfort. There is no air conditioning, hot water, or modern showers, as facilities are designed to support conservation volunteers.
However, this simplicity offers visitors a rare opportunity to connect deeply with nature. While it may not compare to city hotels or homestays, the experience of staying in this unique setting often leaves lasting, unforgettable memories.
DAY 5: RELEASING BABY TURTLE IN SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH – TRANSFER TO BALI
- Morning Activities Start the day early with breakfast at the Sukamade Beach guesthouse. At around 7:00 AM, take part in a heartwarming activity: releasing baby turtles (hatchlings) into the ocean. Witness these tiny creatures embark on their life’s journey, a rare and meaningful experience. Afterward, enjoy exploring the peaceful surroundings of Sukamade. Take a refreshing dip in the nearby river, a spot often used by locals for bathing, before beginning your return trip.
- Transfer to Banyuwangi & Bali The drive back to Banyuwangi takes approximately 4–5 hours. Along the way, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Once in Banyuwangi, you’ll board a ferry for a 1.5-hour crossing to Bali. Upon arrival at Gilimanuk Harbor, a Bali driver will transfer you to your hotel in the Bali area, marking the end of your tour.
