TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: YOGYAKARTA CITY TOUR (PRAMBANAN TEMPLE, SULTAN PALACE, WATER CASTLE) – ACCOMMODATION IN THE BOROBUDUR TEMPLE AREA
The Yogyakarta tour package will start from Yogyakarta International Airport in Yogyakarta. Our staff will meet you and then escort you to Yogyakarta city for a city tour there. Afterward, we will drive from Yogyakarta to your Hotel in the Borobudur temple area for an enjoyable stay there before you do the Borobudur sunrise tour tomorrow morning.
Note: We require you to arrive before midday and please avoid Monday, because Sultan Palace is closed for one day.
DAY 2: SETUMBU HILL SUNRISE TOUR & BOROBUDUR TEMPLE TOUR – ACCOMMODATION IN THE MOUNT BROMO AREA (B)
The second day of the trip will start at 4:30 a.m. from your stay in the Borobudur Temple area, and we will go to Setumbu Hill to watch the sunrise. Setumbu Hill is a viewpoint situated to the northwest of Borobudur, and it offers a stunning panoramic view of the temple, mountains, and its surroundings. This hill is very famous for some photographers because you can see the top of Borobudur temple at sunrise (if the weather allows).
Upon your arrival around 5:00 AM, our local team will help you navigate the best viewpoints on Setumbu Hill, Setumbu Hill is not a difficult hike, the trek takes about 10 minutes from the parking place, and you should reach the viewpoint just before sunrise.
Once you’ve reached the viewpoint on Setumbu Hill, you can enjoy the breathtaking sunrise view of Borobudur Temple and the surrounding landscape. The misty morning atmosphere adds to the mystique of the experience. This is a fantastic spot for photography, so be sure to bring your camera or smartphone to capture the incredible scenery.
After enjoying the sunrise and taking in the beauty of the temple, you can return to Borobudur. You can explore the temple in detail, learning about its history and significance.
Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take your time to explore its intricate stone carvings and reliefs, which depict Buddhist teachings and stories. Additionally, be respectful of the site and its spiritual significance while visiting. This tour provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the architectural and natural beauty of Borobudur and the surrounding area.
Don’t forget to immerse yourself in the local culture, interact with the people, and taste local Javanese food and snacks in the area.
Note: For now, we are only allowed to stay on the top of the Borobudur Temple for an hour, because they limit access to the top of the temple to avoid mass tourism and destruction of the temple itself. We will use special shoes that are prepared from the temple and you must follow the queue to get the tickets (we will handle the tickets) and join the session per hour provided by the Borobudur Temple Management. And Monday, Borobudur is open only for the ground floor, so please avoid visiting on Monday.
At 10 am, we will go back to our accommodation to take a shower, and at about 11:00 am, we will drive to the Yogyakarta area because we have to be at the train station at 13:00 the train leaves at 13:38 and arrives at 17:35 at the Surabaya Gubeng Train Station where our East Java team will be picking you up. Then, we will drive about 3-4 hours to reach our accommodation in the Mount Bromo area.
DAY 3: BROMO SUNRISE TOUR – ACCOMMODATION IN KALIBARU HIGHLAND (B)
The Mount Bromo tour will start at 3.30 AM then the jeep will bring you to the world’s most famous viewpoint at Mount Penanjakan on the rim of the Tengger caldera to see the sunrise with its young volcanic including Mount Bromo and an active Mount Semeru as a background, then the jeep will continue our adventure to reach the sea of sands in Mt. Bromo area. We will stop at the parking area then you will cross the sea of sands by riding a horse or on foot (it is optional) till reach the stairs up at the slope of Mt. Bromo which will lead you to reach the peak of Mt. Bromo. At about 08.00 AM, the 4WD vehicle (jeep) will bring you back to the hotel for breakfast, take a shower, pack, and load bags into our van. Afterward, we will continue our trip to Kalibaru Highland for about 4 hours by passing small villages, rural landscapes, rice fields & plantations. Then upon your arrival at Kalibaru Highland, you will stay overnight and have dinner at Margo Utomo Cottages or a similar hotel with any kind of plantations surrounding and a nice view hill.
DAY 04: KALIBARU HOTEL – ECO PLANTATIONS TOUR (AROMA TOUR) – SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH (B, D)
After having breakfast at your hotel at 9.00 AM, you will have a chance to enjoy the eco trip of plantations in the Kalibaru area. On this tour program, you will do short trekking through 09 hectares of plantations with varieties of spices such as nutmeg, cloves, pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa, coffee, and coconuts. You may also discover the extraordinary attraction of the traditional process of making palm sugar from palm tree liquid. Do not to forget visit the dairy farm. The trip can be arranged in the morning and takes about 1 hour to 1,5 hours. Afterward, around 10.00 AM, we will continue our trip to Sukamade Turtle Beach. It takes about 2 hours to reach Pesanggaran village then continue to Sukamade Turtle Beach about 1,5 hours by crossing rain forest and rivers using our special adventure vehicle. Lunch will be served at the local restaurant on the way to Sukamade turtle beach. Upon your arrival in the Sukamade Turtle Beach area, you will stay in a very basic shelter provided by the national park.
SUKAMADE TURTLE TOUR:
After having dinner at your homestay at 8.00 PM, The rangers of Turtle Foundation and Natural Resources Conservation will take you to the shore of Sukamade Beach to see the turtle laying the eggs. The rangers will give you very good guidance about what should you do and what shouldn’t do when you are there but this activity is not a promise that you will always see the turtle that night because the turtle has also an instinct that is safe or secure for them to lay the eggs at the shore, they normally will go back to the beach when they think the place is not safe from their predators, for example, Wild Pig, Wild Monkey or any other predator that like to eat their eggs.
The best season to see the turtle lays their eggs is between June – December, but this can be changed anytime due to climate change.
SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH
This is the most appropriate phrase to describe a trip to this national park well known as Sukamade Beach. There are no tourists in many quantities. The only silence of the woods, the sound of rivers, the hospitality of local people, and cacao, and coffee plantations.
Crossing rivers, after 3 hours on the road and 2 hours of a bumpy road, your trip will be full of challenges. Deep in the jungle, there is a beach where the landing of turtles.
7 species of sea turtles in the world and 6 species of sea turtles in Indonesia, 4 with species landing and laying eggs on Sukamade Beach. Seeing the turtles lay their eggs at night is the most poignant sight that can be seen by visitors. Imagine the sea turtles taking a distance of thousands of kilometers from their origin in the other parts of the continent and just laying eggs on Sukamade Beach.
ACCOMMODATION IN SUKAMADE BEACH:
The conditions here are very simple (no shower, no fan, no AC, no TV, no Wi-Fi, no phone connection), so it’s a completely basic stay that is owned by the national park which is located in a remote area where you only can visit with Jeep or 4WD car.
DAY 5: SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH – ACCOMMODATION IN BANYUWANGI AREA (B)
After breakfast in the Sukamade turtle beach area, at about 07.00 AM. We will have a chance to release some baby turtles or little juveniles to the Sukamade beach. Then exploring the surroundings of Sukamade, this is an area virtually void of people. Go and dip in crystal clear water near the river. Afterward, we will continue our trip to the Hotel in the Banyuwangi area for about 4-5 Hours. In this route, we will pass rural landscapes, small cities, rice fields, plantations, and beaches. Lunch will be served on the way to the local restaurant. About in the late afternoon or in the early evening, we will reach your hotel in Banyuwangi town for an overnight stay before you enjoy the Ijen Crater trekking the next morning.
DAY 6: IJEN CRATER TOUR – BALI (B)
Ijen crater tour will start at about 5.00 AM then our car will bring us to the village of Licin and then continue to the slope of Mout Ijen, passing through plantations and rainforest. This is one of few remaining on the island of Java with giant ferns, plants & big trees. This journey takes approximately 1,5 hours from the hotel. Arriving at the parking area of Mount Ijen, you will take 1.5 hours will be required to ascend the slope of Mount Ijen to reach the peak of Ijen Crater along the path, you will enjoy the stunning natural scenery with fresh air & shade. Rest on the edge of the crater at an altitude of 2385 meters and enjoy the best panorama of the lake of acid water which reflects the spectacular view in the surrounding walls that gives the impression of doom. The sulfur miners go down into the crater and climb back up by passing a dangerous path on the edge of the Ijen crater with a load of as much as 80 kilograms on their shoulders.
After enjoying the natural scenery at Crater of Ijen and then descend the slope of Mount Ijen until to the vehicle parking area where our vehicle is waiting to escort you to the plantations. Afterward, we will be back to the town of Banyuwangi to have lunch at the local restaurant, and then we will drive to Ketapang Ferry Port and then take a ferry to reach Gilimanuk Ferry Port on the western tip of Bali Island. Upon arrival at Gilmanuk Ferry port, our Bali drive will welcome you and will escort you to your hotel in Bali (Ubud, Lovina, Sanur, Kuta, Jimbaran area, etc).
