This tour is made for the traveler who has a short length of holiday in Indonesia but is willing to explore Sumba Island within four days. In this tour, we will escort you to explore almost all the must-see destinations here such as Ratenggaro Village, Mandorak Beach, Weekuri/Waikuri Lake, Praijing Village, Lapopu Waterfall, Warinding Hill, Tanarara Hill, Waimarang Waterfall, Walakiri Beach, and Tanau Hill. We highly recommend you to be arrived at the Tambolaka Airport before midday and leave Sumba Island from Waingapu Airport after midday or before evening.

HOW TO GET HERE:
The best way to reach Sumba Island is by plane from Bali. It’s about a 1h25m flight and there is a 2-3 schedule every day, so make sure you book earlier to get here. Because the tickets are easily sold out. There are not many foreigners who come here because most of them don’t yet know about this island.

We recommend you, to fly from Bali to Tambolaka Airport (South West of Sumba) and fly back to Bali from Waingapu Airport (East of Sumba).

TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: RATENGGARO VILLAGE – WEEKURI LAKE – MANDORAK BEACH

Arriving at Tambolaka airport, you will be met by our driver and guide. Firstly, we will escort you to check your hotel in at Tambolaka/Waitabula area and then we will bring you to have lunch with local food from Sumba.

After enjoying your lunch, we will visit Ratenggaro Traditional Village, here you will see how the Sumbanese (local people) live at the traditional local house here, their houses are very unique compared to other traditional villages in Indonesia. Then, you still can see the stone age of the cemetery. One more thing, most of the people on Sumba island are Christians and they still keep the oldest style of the religion. But nowadays, some kids try to sell some souvenirs to the visitors such as traditional necklaces and bracelets.

After enjoying this traditional village, we will escort you to Weekuri Lake. Weekuri/Waikuri lake is a salty lake in which the water comes out from a hole that connects to the Sumba ocean. In Weekuri lake you can swim or just play with the water here even if you can do cliff jumping into the lake, but we have to make sure that the water is deep enough.

Afterward, we will drive for 5 minutes to get to Mandorak beach, Mandorak beach is a small white sandy beach near Weekuri lake. You will be super amazed at this beach because it’s like a private beach with clear blue water and surrounded by cliffs. Even, when you are brave enough, you could jump from a cliff. After enjoying this area, we will escort you back to your hotel, have dinner, and rest before we continue our trip the next day.

DAY 2: PRAIJING TRADITIONAL VILLAGE – LAPOPU WATERFALL – WAIRINDING HILL 

The second day will be a bit early because we will do an adventure between West Sumba and East Sumba which will be our next accommodation for two nights. The tour will start around 9 am from your Hotel in Waitabula area, we will drive around 1h40m to continue our journey to Praijing Village, here you will see another traditional village which is different from the Ratenggaro Village, the one that you visited on the first day. Our guide will explain thoroughly about this village.
After enjoying the village, we will continue to our next destination, which is Lapopu waterfall. Along the way, you will see a green hilly area with some villages around where the local children will raise their hands and say hello to you. Upon your arrival in Lapopu waterfall area, you need to do short trekking for about 10 minutes bypassing the small path and bamboo bridge. There is a nice spot to sit down where you can watch the water find its way down the hill. You can also bring your swimming clothes to take a dive in the water just in front of the big waterfall and cool down after a long day of adventure. After enjoying the waterfall, we will drive to Waingapu area for about 3-4 hours. We will stop at Wairinding hill for taking some great photos, you can also wait for sunrise here before we continue to the place where we will stay for two nights.

• Lapopu Waterfall (sometimes it’s closed due to natural problems such as floods or landslides)

DAY 3: TANARARA HILL – WAIMARANG WATERFALL – WALAKIRI BEACH

The third day of the trip will be a bit relaxing because there will be no rush for sunrise (but if you want to see the sunrise at Tanarara Hill, you can discuss it with us the day before the trip but when you take a sunrise, you will be missed your breakie while we have to go directly to the Waimarang Waterfall to cut the journey from going back to Hotel again).

After breakfast at about 9 am (or later), we will drive to Tanarara Hill, where you can see the beautiful hilly area with a small road in the middle of the hill where people, kids, cars, motorbikes, and so on pass by. This road is the only road to connect the bigger village to the small village. The journey to this hill will take about an hour from your hotel in Waingapu. Afterward, we will go to Waimarang Waterfall, it takes about 2 hours with stops to reach the waterfall, upon your arrival at the parking place near the waterfall, we should walk for about 10-15 minutes, when you reached the waterfall, you can swim and enjoy the nature’s surrounding.

Before the sun goes down, we should go back to Waingapu and stop at Walakiri Beach where you can see the sunset here with some uniques Mangrove trees as the subject. The drive from the waterfall takes about an hour, upon your arrival, you can take a seat and enjoy the young coconuts by the local beachside stall here.

After enjoying the sunset, we will go back to town and have dinner at the local restaurant and then go back to your Hotel.

DAY 4: SUNRISE AT TANAU HILL –  WAINGAPU AIRPORT

On the last day of the trip, we would like to invite you to see the enchanting sunrise from Tenau hill, this hill is one of the most iconic hills on Sumba Island that has a beautiful hilly landscape and it’s completely good for travel or aerial photographers.

Wake up around 5.45 am and we will drive to Tanarara hill for about ± 25 minutes. Upon your arrival in Tenau hill, you will be amazed by the landscape here. The sun will rise around 6.20 am here. After enjoying the sunrise and surrounding around 8 / 9 am, we will take you back to your hotel, take a shower, check out, visit the local place to buy souvenirs and then go to Airport

IMPORTANT NOTE: AT THE MOMENT, THERE IS ONLY ONE FLIGHT NOW TO BALI FROM WAINGAPU AT 6:30, SO WE DONT HAVE A CHANCE TO VISIT THE LAST DESTINATION (AND WE HAVE PUT THE LAST DAY AS THE TRANSFER OUT ONLY) BUT IT WILL BE POSSIBLE IF YOU BOOK THE FLIGHT BACK FROM TAMBOLAKA AIRPORT, THERE IS A 16:00 FLIGHT THAT YOU CAN CHOOSE. BUT WE MUST DRIVE ABOUT 4 HOURS TO THE WEST OF SUMBA AND THERE WILL ADDITIONAL COST OF 1,500,000 IDR FOR THIS OPTION.
