BROMO IJEN TUMPAK SEWU TOUR FROM MALANG 3D2N

GLANCE OF THE TOUR:
East Java is one of the provinces in Indonesia that hosts some amazing places for the travel lists of travelers around the world. For example, Mount Bromo, Ijen Crater, and also Tumpak Sewu Waterfall.  Three of them are the most Instagram-able places that have scenic views and stunning landscapes.

Some travelers have long holidays but some of them just have a short time visit. So, here we make a short time that includes 3 of them basically, we need 4 days of the visit.

The detail of the trip is below;

TOUR ITINERARY:

DAY 1: MALANG – TUMPAK SEWU WATERFALL – HOTEL/HOMESTAY IN MOUNT BROMO AREA
On day one of the trip we recommend starting in the early morning at 6 am if you are staying at the hotel in the Malang area but if you are arriving by flight or train, we will follow your schedule. The drive from Malang to Tumpak Sewu waterfall is 2 hours away.

The best time to visit the waterfall is between 6-10 am because the weather is perfect and there will be fewer people than later.

Along the way, you will see nice views such as a volcano view, an abandoned bridge with a nice view, villages, and rice fields. Upon your arrival at the parking place, you will be walking for some minutes until you reach the panorama view of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. From this Panorama viewpoint, you will see the 180’ view that makes your photo more amazing than others. The drone is allowed here and highly recommended to be used.

After enjoying the view from the panorama viewpoint, we have to walk for about 40 minutes until we reach the bottom point of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. The path to the bottom is slippery, rocky, and a bit dangerous. So, make sure you always listen to our guide.

After you reach the bottom point, you will be amazed by the area that is surrounded by the cliff wall and thick forest around. The whole journey here will take about 3-4 hours. It depends on how you enjoy the trekking and the waterfall.

When you have finished the trekking and enjoyed the waterfall, we will escort you to the next destination that is Mount Bromo area to stay overnight before you do the sunrise tour the next morning. It will take about 4 hours to drive.

DAY 2: MOUNT BROMO SUNRISE TOUR – TREKKING TO THE TOP OF MOUNT BROMO – HOTEL/HOMESTAY IN IJEN CRATER AREA (BANYUWANGI TOWN AREA)
The day two of the trip, we will start at 3 a.m. from your hotel/homestay in the Mount Bromo area then we will drive for about 45 minutes to reach Kingkong Hill sunrise point. We will be riding with a local jeep here.

Upon your arrival at Kingkong Hill, we will escort you to have some hot coffee or tea while waiting for the sunrise. The sun rises at about 5:30 a.m., so you will have about an hour to wait.

OPTIONAL PROGRAM:
IF YOU WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER VIEWPOINT WHICH IS NO ONE AROUND, WE RECOMMEND VISITING ROGOWULAN HILL, BUT IT’S ONLY ACCESSIBLE BY MOTORBIKE. AND YOU MUST LET US KNOW 1 DAY BEFORE, SO WE CAN ORDER TO MOTORBIKE TAXI FOR YOU. THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL COST OF ABOUT 400.000 IDR /PER PERSON

When the sunrise comes over, we have to leave the coffee shop quickly and get the best spot to capture the view of the sunrise, Mount Bromo, and the surroundings.

We will be here until 6:30 am, afterward, we will go back to our jeep and drive through the hill down to the sea of sand of Mount Bromo. Upon your arrival at the sea of sand, we will trek for about 45 minutes to reach the peak of Mount Bromo.

The path is quite easy and not too steep when you reach the top you can smell the sulfuric smoke from its hole and you can see how active this volcano was before.

After enjoying the trekking, we have to go back to our jeep and drive back to the hotel to have breakfast, take a shower, and continue our trip to Banyuwangi town to stay overnight before trekking to Ijen Crater in the morning. The drive takes 6 hours from Bromo to the Banyuwangi area

DAY 3: IJEN CRATER TOUR – TRANSFER TO YOUR HOTEL IN BALI
The last day of the trip will start at about 2:00 am, we will drive about an hour to reach Paltuding/the start point of the volcano. Upon your arrival in Paltuding, we will be trekking for about 1,5 -2 hours, it depends on your pace. When you reach the crater rim of Ijen Volcano, our guide will take you to the best spot to see the sunrise and also the best view of the crater itself.   Ijen Volcano has one of the biggest sulfuric lakes in Asia and the lake has a turquoise color with high acidity (0,5 Ph.). So it’s beautiful and also dangerous.

After enjoying the view here at about 7 a.m., we will go back to our car and drive back to the Hotel/Homestay for breakfast. At about 11 am, we will drop you at Ketapang Ferry Port and you must take a ferry for an hour to Gilimanuk Harbor. Upon your arrival in Gilimanuk harbor, you will be welcomed by our Balinese driver who is ready to take you to your hotel in the Bali area.

OPTIONAL PROGRAM: If the weather is good enough and you have good conditions for trekking at night, you can take the Ijen blue fire tour at Ijen Crater but you are required to leave the Hotel or Homestay around 1:00 AM or Midnight.
Note: there is no additional cost to take this blue fire tour but this trip depends on the Ijen Crater condition when it’s not allowed to go down by the local volcanologists, we are only able to stay on the top of the crater.

DISTANCE MEASUREMENT:

1. GILIMANUK FERRY PORT TO UBUD, KUTA, SANUR, CANGGU, DENPASAR AREA (±4-5 HOURS’ DRIVE)
2. LOVINA (±2 HOURS’ DRIVE)
3. PEMUTERAN (± 30 MINUTES DRIVE)

What to pack for your East Java adventure:

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall:

You will get very wet including wading through a knee-deep river. Pack clothing or a bathing suit that you feel comfortable getting wet from the river and the mist. (And a change of clothes for the long car ride afterward). You should also feel comfortable hiking down to the waterfall and back through some mud and stairs. We suggest sturdy sandals, water shoes, or boots. Unfortunately, you can’t swim in the water though. 

Mount Bromo:

It will be very cold and windy at the Bromo viewpoint while we wait for sunrise so bring lots of warm layers (9-13C). And a rain jacket for the wind or just in case. Afterward, you will go on a 30-minute walk to the crater. It will be warmer by then so dress in layers and have good walking shoes. 

Ijen Crater:

It will be about the same temperature at the start of ijen but you will get very hot and sweaty on the hike up. And colder again as you wait for sunrise. Bring good walking/hiking shoes, layers, and a rain jacket for wind or in case of rain.
