WHAT MAKES THIS TOUR AMAZING?
This tour is designed for any travelers who are willing to explore the untouched paradise in Indonesia which is very accessible from Bali island or any bigger airport in Indonesia. So, we introduce Sumba Island as your untouched paradise destination and we offer six days to explore from the west side and finish on the east side of the island.

Sumba Island is a remote island that has two small airports in the west part (Tambolaka Airport ) and the east part (Waingapu Airport). There are not many big hotels, villas, or any good homestays. Most of them are quite basic and the cost is higher compared to Java Island or Bali Island. Because everything is still from Java Island, for example, some important things such as rice, fuel, car, and many more. Mostly they deliver by land which takes more than 6 days to be on Sumba Island.

Besides that, Sumba Island has beautiful nature; a clear crystal salty lake, an amazing waterfall, a surfing spot, traditional villages, tradition and culture, the best landscapes for photography, and friendly local people.

HOW TO GET HERE:
The best way to reach Sumba Island is by plane from Bali. It’s about a 1h25m flight and there is a 2-3 schedule every day, so make sure you book earlier to get here. Because the tickets are easily sold out. There are not many foreigners who come here because most of them don’t yet know about this island.

We recommend you, to fly from Bali to Tambolaka Airport (South West of Sumba) and fly back to Bali from Waingapu Airport (East of Sumba). We recommend visiting Sumba Island in 6 days, it’s the best length to explore the island.

TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVE AT TAMBOLAKA AIRPORT – RATENGGARO VILLAGE – PERO BEACH

Arriving at Tambolaka airport, you will be met by our driver and guide. Firstly, we will escort you to check your hotel in Tambolaka area and then we will bring you to have lunch at a local restaurant in Sumba or we will escort you to check in at your hotel first when the time is on schedule.

After having lunch, we will drive to Ratenggaro village at about ± 1h40m. In Ratenggaro village, you will see how the Sumbanese (local people) live in the traditional local house here, their houses are very unique compared to other traditional villages in Indonesia. Then, you still can see the stone age of the cemetery. One more thing, most of the people on Sumba island are Christians and they still keep the oldest style of the religion. But nowadays, some kids try to sell some souvenirs to visitors such as traditional necklaces and bracelets.

After enjoying this traditional village, we will escort you to Pero Beach which needs about 20 minutes drive. Here we will walk and enjoy the beach and wait for the sunset when you want to go back before sunset, we can do that as well. After enjoying the sunset, we will get back to the town and then have local dinner before going back to our hotel in Tambolaka Town

DAY 2:  WEEKURI LAKE – MANDORAK BEACH – PRAIJING VILLAGE – LAPOPU WATERFALL

The second day of the trip will be a rough day because we will travel from Southwest Sumba to East Sumba, we will visit four destinations in a day. Make sure you will have spare swimming clothes and dry clothes in one bag.

After having breakfast at around 8 am, we will escort you to Weekuri Lake which is about a 1h30m drive. Weekuri lake is a salty lake in which the water comes out from the hole that connects to the Sumba ocean. In Weekuri lake you can swim or just play with the water here even if you can do cliff jumping into the lake, but we have to make sure that the water is deep enough.

Afterward, we will drive for 5 minutes to get Mandorak beach, Mandorak beach is a small white sandy beach near Weekuri lake. You will be super amazed by this beach because it’s like a private beach with clear blue water and surrounded by a cliff. Even, when you are brave enough, you could jump from a cliff. After enjoying this area, we will go to Praijing Village where you can see the interesting village with the lifestyle and this is completely different from Ratenggaro Village, the one that you saw on the first day. Our guide will explain the detail of Praijing Village while walking around.

Then we will drive to our last destination, Lapopu Waterfall. Upon your arrival at the parking place before the waterfall, you be required to walk more about 10 minutes and it will bit slippery because we will walk on the riverside and cross the homemade bamboo bridge, here you can swim or just enjoy and take a photo of the waterfall.

After enjoying the waterfall, we will get back to our car and get the ready long drive, it’s about 3-4 hours to our next accommodation in East Sumba (Waingapu).

DAY 3: TANARARA HILL – WAIMARANGG WATERFALL – WALAKIRI BEACH

On the third day of the trip, we will be visiting the most famous hill in East Sumba, that is Tanarara Hill, here you will see a pretty hilly landscape divided by a small road that connects two villages. We will start at 9 am in the morning after breakfast and the journey will take about an hour along the way, you will see some kids wave a hand to you.

After visiting this hill, we will continue to the Waimarang Waterfall, where you can relax and enjoy the cold water. We will drive about 1h50m and upon your arrival, you will need to walk about 1 km from the parking place. Make sure you swim, jump and dive in here, it’s worth it to try.

Walakiri Beach will be our last destination to visit for the third day, from the Waimarang waterfall, we will drive for about an hour. At this beach, you can find local beachside stalls where you can buy a coconut to enjoy while waiting for the sunset.

DAY 4: TANGGEDU WATERFALL – WAIRINDING HILL

On the fourth day of the trip, we would like to invite you to see the enchanting waterfall in the hot dry village of East Sumba, we will be visiting Tanggedu Waterfall, to reach the place we will pas some beautiful landscape where you can capture the best moment together. You will see a huge savanna with dried grasses and rocks on the hill and you will see some horses that run and look for food in the morning.

Around 9 am and we will drive to Tanggedu waterfall for about ± 2 hours. Upon your arrival at the stop point, you will be invited for soft trekking for about 20-30 minutes to reach this waterfall and we should walk down the path, you must be careful because there is some slippery path. Make sure you bring wet clothes and an underwater camera. Upon your arrival here, you will be amazed by the waterfall that makes your photos more eye-catching.

The next stop is at Wairinding hill, will be watching the sunset here and enjoying the view of the hilly landscapes.

DAY 5: PRAILIU TRADITIONAL VILLAGE – PERSAUDARAAN HILL – TENAU HILL

On the fifth day of the trip, we will invite you to the local village where you can see the differences between the village at the west Sumba and southwest Sumba that you saw on another day. After breakfast around 9 am, we will go to Prailiu Village, where you can visit and observe the traditional village in the East Sumba area, there will be big tombs around the village. Some people here sell also some souvenirs from small things to big woven fabric, most of them are made by locals traditionally.

After enjoying the village, we will drive to the Persaudaraan Hill, where you can see the small town of Waingapu, the Airport, and the fields, we recommend visiting this place in the morning because it’s less hot and better for the view. The next stop is the local restaurant, where we will have lunch and rest for a while before continuing our trip.

Tenau hill is our last stop for today, if you wish to visit another nearby spot just let the guide and driver know. This hill is not very far from the town, it’s about an hour. Tenau hill is very famous for its hilly landscapes and some people watch the sunset here too.

DAY 6: FREE LEISURE – VISIT LOKAL MARKET/SOUVENIR SHOP – AIRPORT IN WAINGAPU

On the last day of the trip, it will be such a relaxing day because you can wake up not so early and you can enjoy the hotel before we check out and visit souvenir shops or local market where you can see the local people do and sell at the market or shop.

After that we will escort you to the airport and the trip is officially finished.

IMPORTANT NOTE: AT THE MOMENT, THERE IS ONLY ONE FLIGHT NOW TO BALI FROM WAINGAPU AT 6:30, SO WE DONT HAVE A CHANCE TO VISIT THE LAST DESTINATION (AND WE HAVE PUT THE LAST DAY AS THE TRANSFER OUT ONLY) BUT IT WILL BE POSSIBLE IF YOU BOOK THE FLIGHT BACK FROM TAMBOLAKA AIRPORT, THERE IS A 16:00 FLIGHT THAT YOU CAN CHOOSE. BUT WE MUST DRIVE ABOUT 4 HOURS TO THE WEST OF SUMBA AND THERE WILL ADDITIONAL COST OF 1,500,000 IDR FOR THIS OPTION.
