5. DAY 5: MOUNT BROMO SUNRISE TOUR – TRANSFER TO SURABAYA

WHAT MAKES THIS TOUR PACKAGE INTERESTING?

East Java consists of a few cities and town that has their characteristics as tourism destination, in this itinerary, we will focus on 3 towns with 5 destinations, those are Sukamade Turtle Beach, Ijen Crater/Kawah Ijen, Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, Kapas Biru Waterfall, and Mount Bromo. For these places, you will just need 5 days and 4 nights that you can start from Bali and finish in Surabaya but you can also start and finish in Bali or Surabaya too, so it’s very flexible because it’s a private trip as well.

Here is the detailed Itinerary for you:

DAY 1: BALI – SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH

On the first day of the tour, we will start from the Bali area, it can be Ubud, Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta, or any places nearby, it will take about 4 hours to drive but if you stayed in the northern part of Bali, for example, Lovina, Munduk, or Pemuteran, it will be less than 2 hours. Please let us know which place you stay and we can inform you about the time when we will pick you up and how long is the drive.

On this first day, we recommend starting at 7 am from the Bali area, because we will drive a bit longer to reach the Sukamade Turtle Beach area, it’s in the deep jungle of Merubetiri National Park. From the harbor will take 3 hours with the normal car to reach Rajegwesi village from the Ferry port and then we will change to a 4WD car where we can enter the national park safely. We will cross green lush jungles, small villages, and rivers too.

ACCOMMODATION IN SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH:

The accommodation here is pretty basic, it’s just a normal bed with a hand shower (small bucket), and without fans, or AC but it’s comfy enough for your adventure here.

ACTIVITY IN SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH:

Around 20:00 after dinner, we will gather at the ranger’s office and they will inform you about what should and shouldn’t do when you are joining the night turtle watching. The activity will be finished before midnight whether we found turtles laying their eggs or not. The next morning, we will have a few baby turtles or juveniles that old enough to be released into the free ocean.

DAY 2: SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH – GREEN BAY BEACH – TRANSFER TO IJEN CRATER AREA

On the second day of the trip, we will walk to the beach around 7 or 8 am with a bucket of baby turtles or juveniles, there we will release and hopefully they will survive and back again to this beach when they are old enough.

Around 9:30 am, we will be ready to check out from this area and drive to Green Bay beach where you can chill, swim, and relax before we continue our way to the Ijen Crater area.

DAY 3: IJEN BLUE FIRE TOUR – TRANSFER TO TUMPAK SEWU WATERFALL AREA

On the 3rd day of the tour, we will start the trip around 00:30 where we have to drive around 1h30m to reach Paltuding which is the place where we will start to trek. The trekking takes about 1h30m to reach the top of the crater and you should go down to the bottom of the crater where you can see the natural phenomenon closer. It will take about 45 minutes and a gas mask is required for this section especially when the smoke comes in our direction.

Afterward, we will go back again to the top of the crater and walk a bit to a sunrise viewpoint where you can see the whole view of the Ijen Crater at sunrise.

Note: When you are not interested to go down for blue fire, we can start around 1:30 am from your accommodation focusing on a sunrise trip only.

At 7 am, we will go back down to where we started and back to accommodation for having breakfast, shower, and drive for about 5-6 hours to reach the Tumpak Sewu Waterfall area.

TIPS: It will be about this temperature of 9-15 at the start of ijen but you will get very hot and sweaty on the hike up. And colder again as you wait for sunrise. Bring good walking/hiking shoes, layers, and a rain jacket for wind or in case of rain.

DAY 4: TUMPAK SEWU WATERFALL – KAPAS BIRU WATERFALL – TRANSFER TO BROMO AREA

On the fourth day of the trip, we will start at 6:30 am, the earlier the better because it will be fewer people and a clearer view in the early morning. Firstly we will see the whole view from the panorama point then go down to the bottom of the waterfall, which takes about 30 minutes.

After enjoying the main waterfall, we will go to second waterfall which is Kapas Biru Waterfall, this next activity will take another 2 hours more and less. Afterward, we will go back to your accommodation for changing and continue our journey to the Mount Bromo area, it takes about 3 hours to drive.

TIPS: You will get very wet including wading through a knee-deep river. Pack clothing or a bathing suit that you feel comfortable getting wet from the river and the mist. You should also feel comfortable hiking down to the waterfall and back through some mud and stairs. We suggest sturdy sandals, water shoes, or boots. Unfortunately, you can’t swim in the water but there is a small pond there that you can dip in.

DAY 5: BROMO SUNRISE TOUR – TRANSFER TO SURABAYA 

On the last day of the trip, we will start at 3:30 am from your accommodation and we will ride a local vintage jeep (mostly Toyota Land  Cruiser) to reach the sunrise viewpoint and explore the sea of sand here.

The sun normally rises at 5:30 am but around 5 am, you can see already the color of the sunrise and it means, you should secure your place a few minutes ahead before the others take your place. Around 6:30 am, we will go back to our Jeep and drive to the sea of sand where you can start to trek to the top of Mount Bromo, the trekking will take about 45 minutes and you can also take a horse ride if you want.

After enjoying the whole activity here, we will go back to your accommodation and continue our journey to Surabaya which is where our service ends and it will take about 3 hours to drive.

TIPS: It will be very cold and windy at the Bromo viewpoint while we wait for sunrise so bring lots of warm layers (9-13C). And a rain jacket for the wind or just in case. Afterward, you will go on a 30 min walk to the crater. It will be warmer by then so dress in layers and have good walking shoes.

OPTIONAL TOUR:

If you don’t have any plane or train to catch on the last day, and you just need to be dropped at your hotel in the Surabaya area, we can offer a short visit to Madakaripura Waterfall, it’s not included yet, you can let us know during the booking process if you want to add this waterfall into your itinerary.
