TOUR ITINERARY

SURABAYA – IJEN CRATER – MOUNT BROMO – YOGYAKARTA CITY TOUR – PRAMBANAN TEMPLE – MERAPI VOLCANO JEEP TOUR – BOROBUDUR TEMPLE –YOGYAKARTA AIRPORT (6 DAYS – 5 NIGHTS)

DAY 01: SURABAYA –  ACCOMMODATION IN IJEN CRATER AREA (BONDOWOSO TOWN)

We will meet you at your Hotel in Surabaya or Airport, and then we drive to the nearest town to the Ijen Crater area (Bondowoso Town) for about 5 hours. In this route, we will pass rural landscapes, small cities, rice fields, plantations, and beaches. Lunch will be served on the way to the local restaurant. In the late afternoon or early evening, we will reach your accommodation in the Ijen Crater area. Then, stay overnight before you enjoy the Ijen Crater trekking the next morning.

DAY 02: IJEN CRATER TOUR – ACCOMMODATION IN BROMO AREA (B)

Ijen crater tour will start at 00:15 from your hotel then our car will bring us to Paltuding. Paltuding is a parking place where will park our car and start our trekking to Ijen Crater. This journey takes approximately 1, 5 hours. Arriving at the parking area of Ijen Crater (1850m), From here, you need 1, 5  – 2 hours away from our hotel Bondosowo to Paltuding, 2 hours will be required to hike the slope of Ijen Crater. The path is quite slippery in some areas, so it’s better to try to bring your trekking shoes for better trekking. We will the most famous natural phenomenon of Blue Fire which is only  2 in the world, those are in Indonesia and Ethiopia. It’s one of the reasons why Ijen Crater is one of the famous places for all travelers around the world.

After enjoying the natural phenomenon of blue fire, we will back to the peak of Ijen Crater to enjoy the best panorama of the lake of acid water which reflects the spectacular view of the surrounding walls that gives the impression of doom. The sulfur miners go down into the crater and climb back up by passing a dangerous path on the edge of the Ijen crater with a load of as much as 80 kilograms on their shoulders. This is a dangerous and hard job to see beside the amazing landscape in Ijen Crater.

After enjoying the natural scenery at Crater of Ijen, we will be back to Paltuding where we park the car then back to our hotel for breakfast, take a shower, pack up, and drive for about 5 hours to Mount Bromo area.

DAY 03: BROMO SUNRISE TOUR – ACCOMMODATION IN YOGYAKARTA AREA (B) (VIA TRAIN FROM SURABAYA TO YOGYAKARTA)

Mount Bromo tour will start at 3:30 from your hotel and then the jeep will bring you to the world’s most famous viewpoints, those are Penanjakan and Kingkong Hill, which’s located on the rim of the Tengger caldera (2,700m). From here, you can see the enchanting sunrise with the amazing scenery of Mount Bromo, Batok, and Semeru. After you have enjoyed the view here, we will go back to the jeep then the jeep will continue our adventure to reach the sea of sands in the Mt. Bromo area. We will stop at the parking area then you will cross the sea of sands by riding a horse or on foot (it is optional) till you reach the stairs up at the slope of Mt. Bromo where it will lead you to reach the peak of Mt. Bromo. At about 9:00, the jeep will bring you back to the hotel for breakfast, take a shower, pack, loading bags into our van, and then we will continue our trip to Yogyakarta by train. We will go to Surabaya Train Station to catch our train at 17:10, the train takes about 4H25M, so you will be arriving in the Yogyakarta area at 21:17. If there is a train ticket at 15:15, we will go for that time but you have to forget the optional tour of Madakaripura Waterfall, and you will arrive in Yogyakarta around 19:40.

Optional Tour: If you want to visit Madakaripura Waterfall before going to Surabaya Train Station, this time will be possible but you must leave the hotel in Mount Bromo around 10 am, it’s about an hour’s drive to the waterfall and for the total trip at the waterfall approximately you will need 2-3 hours, so it means, you must drive to Surabaya Train Station at 1 pm, to Surabaya you will need 3 hours (more&less). But you should remember this optional trip is excluded, so you should pay at the site to our guide for taking this trip. (only for the 17:10 train)

DAY 04: YOGYAKARTA CITY TOUR – ACCOMMODATION IN YOGYAKARTA AREA (B)

Around 10:00, our staff will meet you at your accommodation then we will be doing a city tour around Yogyakarta, we will be visiting, Sultan Palace, Water Castle, Silver Accessory Place, Batik Place, and Painting Place.  We will have lunch in the local restaurant to refuel our energy before exploring another destination.

After having lunch, we will go to Plaosan, situated near Prambanan in Central Java, Indonesia is a 9th-century Buddhist temple complex known for its unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist architectural styles. Built during the Syailendra dynasty, the temple features two main compounds, Plaosan Lor and Plaosan Kidul, each housing main temples and smaller shrines adorned with intricate reliefs depicting scenes from Buddhist teachings and daily life. The temples underwent restoration to preserve their historical significance, and today, Plaosan Temple attracts tourists with its ancient charm, serene surroundings, and cultural richness, serving as a reminder of the harmonious coexistence of Hindu and Buddhist influences in ancient Java.

After enjoying Plaosan Temple, we will go to back to your accommodation in the Yogyakarta area to enjoy the rest of the night before exploring another temple the next morning.

OPTIONAL PROGRAM:

RAMAYANA BALLET PRAMBANAN (OPEN AIR THEATER)

This dance-drama is a marvelous visualization of legendary epos in Javanese culture, Ramayana. Performed on an open stage and Indoor stage (depending on their regulation), Ramayana ballet invites you to enjoy the story in a set of typical Javanese dances accompanied by gamelan music. In the evenings (19:30 – 21:30), this ballet comes to life, enacted by over 200 professional dancers and musicians on an open-air/indoor stage that takes advantage of the Prambanan Temples as a backdrop. But it will be at your own cost and it depends also on their performance calendar, we will check the availability for your date of travel and I will attach the price for this optional program to your total Invoice.

DAY 05:  PRAMBANAN TEMPLE TOUR – JEEP RIDE AT MERAPI VOLCANO – ACCOMMODATION IN BOROBUDUR TEMPLE AREA (B)

After early morning breakfast around 6:30, we will escort you to Prambanan temple, which is just 30 minutes from the area where you are staying. We start earlier to avoid mass tourists (students/group) and the weather is less hot than daytime. And the best time to visit the Prambanan temple is in the morning starting from 7:00. So, it will be less crowded and you will be able to take great photos of it.

Prambanan temple is an extraordinarily beautiful building constructed in the tenth century during the reigns of two kings namely Rakai Pikatan and Rakai Balitung. Soaring up to 47 meters (5 meters higher than Borobudur temple), the foundation of this temple has fulfilled the desire of the founder to show Hindu triumph on Java Island. Prambanan temple has three main temples in the primary yard, namely Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva temples. Those three temples are symbols of Trimurti in Hindu belief. All of them face to the east. Each main temple has accompanying temples facing to the west, namely Nandini for Shiva, Angsa for Brahma, and Garuda for Vishnu. Besides, there are 2 flank temples, 4 Kelir temples, and 4 corner temples. In the second area, there are 224 temples.

After enjoying the Prambanan Temple, we will go back to our car and then continue to our next destination which is Borobudur Temple area, but we will stop at Kaliadem Village. We will drive about 45 minutes from your stay.

Kaliadem Village is the last place before you do the “Kaliadem Lava Tour in Merapi Volcano”. Around 12:00 (midday), your jeep’s driver will escort you to Kaliadem Village; it’s a village on the slope of Mt Merapi that is destroyed after the last great eruption of Merapi on November 4th and 5th, 2010. The hot cloud (pyroclastic flow) hit this village. This position of the Kaliadem is 1100 meters above sea level. It makes the air still relatively cool, although the tree forest was destroyed when the hot clouds hit on. When the area was opened again, hundreds of visitors came until today, and locals and foreigners reached the location by American Jeep and motor riding. And now, these objects can be seen at Gunung Merapi Museum. The tour will start at Kaliadem Parkir area, from here the jeep will be ready to take you around the volcano for 2 hours, such as visiting the museum, alien stone, yellow river, the cemetery, and the village of the shaman of Mt. Merapi, Kaliadem hill & Kaliadem bunker. Then the driver will escort you to our normal car and then go to your accommodation near the Borobudur temple area which will take a 1h30m drive.

OPTIONAL PROGRAM:
If the time suits our timetable, we will invite you to do a cycling/village tour in the Borobudur area where you will spend more time exploring the natural life of people in the surrounding and nearby villages. There you would gain the social and cultural values that exist and be well preserved. This tour brings you traveling around villages by local transportation called Andhong or horse cart (3 people maximally). Along the trip can see beautiful sceneries and rural living. Take a look at the rice paddies, the place to make tofu, the place for making various crafts such as pottery, bamboo, making pottery, and other activities you need to know. To complete your educational content along the tour, a local guide is needed during this tour. The cost is not yet included, you can let us know if you are interested in.

DAY 06: SUNRISE IN SETUMBU HILL – BOROBUDUR TEMPLE – AIRPORT IN YOGYAKARTA (B)

At about 4:40, you will be picked up by our driver then we will drive for about 15 minutes to Setumbu Hill. From this hill, you will enjoy the stunning sunrise view of Borobudur Temple and Mount Merapi (if the weather allows). The sunrise is at 5:30 am and stay here for a while till 7 am, explore the hill a bit more, and take in the panoramic views then return to your accommodation to have breakfast before exploring Borobudur Temple.

Our local team has purchased an online ticket for you, so we just go in and sit waiting our time to explore the temple, after that, you will get a local guide (in a group) and special shoes to preserve the holiness and originality of Borobudur temple. Borobudur is known for its nine stacked platforms adorned with intricate reliefs and numerous stupas. Take your time to admire the detailed carvings and learn about the history and symbolism of the temple. Head to the uppermost platform for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the nearby Mount Merapi. After that, we will go back to your accommodation for check out and then continue to Yogyakarta International Airport which you can continue your other trip and it means our trip ends here, the drive will take about 1h30m.
