GLANCE OF THE TOUR:
Mount Bromo is one of the best volcanoes to visit in East Java. It has many interesting sites to see and enjoy, such as the beauty of the mountain complex, including Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, Mount Kursi, and Mount Semeru, which can be seen beautifully formed by nature from Seruni Hill or King Kong Hill. Besides the beauty of nature, the local people in Bromo follow a unique culture and religion. We named them Tenggerese, one of Indonesia’s oldest Hindu people. They are very different in how to dress and pray with Hindu people in Bali, for example.
Visiting Mount Bromo is an exciting experience, and we aim to offer something unique—a camping tour near Mount Bromo. While most visitors stay overnight in hotels or hostels nearby, we invite you to camp under the stars at locations like Metigen Hill or nearby. These spots, situated outside the national park, provide stunning views while complying with the new regulations that prohibit camping within Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.
We recommend starting this tour from Surabaya or the Malang area, which is just 3-4 hours away from the village before Mount Bromo, and we recommend arriving here after lunch, so we can go camping before it gets dark. For the completed itinerary, you can check the details below
TOUR ITINERARY:
DAY 1: The trip begins with pick-up from your address in Surabaya or nearby. We recommend starting before midday for a smoother journey. From there, we’ll drive for about 3–4 hours to reach our base camp in Sapikerep Village, near Mount Bromo. Once we arrive, we’ll transfer to our jeep, bringing along our camping gear, food, and all necessary equipment for the adventure.
NOTE: WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND STARTING FROM THE PICK-UP ADDRESS BEFORE MIDDAY, SO WE CAN ENJOY THE SUNSET AT THE CAMPING POINT.
We will drive a jeep for about 50 minutes to reach Metigen Hill, which is our camping point. If we have enough time, we recommend hiking the peak of Mount Bromo in the afternoon, which is much better than in the morning after sunrise. The reason is that in the afternoon there are fewer people and less dust. And on the next day, you just enjoy the sunrise without trekking to the peak of Bromo with hundreds of people, but it all depends on your time; you can decide when you are there.
Upon your arrival in Seruni Hill, we will walk a bit while waiting for our team to set up our tents for tonight. When the weather is great, you can see the beautiful sunset toward Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, Mount Kursi, and Mount Semeru when it appears.
For this camping trip, we will have dinner a bit early because we don’t want we eat our dinner with low light which is only with our torchlight. So we will have dinner before the dark comes, but it’s flexible if you have more light with you.
After dinner, you will have free leisure, you can just chill, enjoy the cold weather with stars above your head or also do astrophotography and stargazing.
DAY 2: For sunrise, we will wake up at about 4 am, which is an hour before sunrise. The sun rises about 5:30 am, but at 5 am, you can already see the light of sunrise. So, there will be a lot of people coming, so we recommend hiking to Seruni Hill, so you can have the best view before the crowds come, or you can just chill in your tent and enjoy the view from there.
When the sun rises from the East, you can see the beautiful color, and it gives light to Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, Mount Kursi, and Mount Semeru on the right side, which makes your photo more amazing.
After enjoying the view, we will have breakfast and be ready to go back to the sea of sand, and then start to hike Mount Bromo (if we did not hike on the previous day).
When all is done, we will go back to the meeting point where our driver is waiting for you. We will put your bag in the car and be ready to go back to the Surabaya area.
OPTIONAL TOUR:
If your flight to Surabaya is later in the evening, we invite you to visit Madakaripura Waterfall, one of East Java’s most stunning natural attractions. Located conveniently on the way to Mount Bromo, this visit can be a wonderful addition to your trip. Please note that the cost is not included in the package and is approximately 350,000 IDR per person.
