TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: PICK UP FROM YOUR HOTEL IN BANYUWANGI (L, D) – DRIVE TO SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH
On the first day, will pick you up at your hotel/homestay in Banyuwangi around 9:30 – 10 AM, we will begin the drive to Sukamade Turtle Beach, a journey of over 4 hours. After approximately 2H30M, we’ll arrive in Rajegwesi Village, where you’ll enjoy lunch before continuing the trip.
From Rajegwesi, we’ll switch to a local jeep for the final leg to your accommodation at Sukamade Turtle Beach. The ride takes 1 to 1.5 hours and includes an adventurous crossing through lush rainforests and rivers.
Upon arrival at Sukamade, you can explore the area on foot and, if the weather permits, enjoy a stunning sunset to conclude your day.
OPTIONAL:
If the weather is good, we will stop for 2 hours in Green Bay / Teluk to the beach which is a hidden beach that has white sand and turquoise water, it’s good for swimming or enjoying the sun. The beach needs trekking for about 20 minutes down to the hill.
SUKAMADE TURTLE ACTIVITY: OBSERVING SEA TURTLES NESTING ON THE SHORE
The activity begins at 8:00 PM, after dinner at your guest house. Guided by rangers from the Turtle Foundation and the Natural Resources Conservation team, you will head to Sukamade Beach to witness sea turtles laying their eggs in their natural habitat.
The rangers will provide clear guidance on how to respectfully observe this incredible process, ensuring minimal disturbance to the turtles and their environment. This is a rare opportunity to experience nature up close while supporting vital conservation efforts.
SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH:
Of the seven sea turtle species in the world, six are found in Indonesia, and four of these choose Sukamade Beach as their nesting site. Witnessing sea turtles laying their eggs at night is an unforgettable and deeply moving experience for visitors.
It’s awe-inspiring to imagine these sea turtles traveling thousands of kilometers across oceans from distant parts of the world, guided by instinct, to lay their eggs on the sands of Sukamade Beach. This extraordinary event highlights the beauty and resilience of nature.
ACCOMMODATION IN SUKAMADE BEACH:
The accommodations at Sukamade Beach are very basic, designed primarily to support turtle conservation efforts and volunteers dedicated to protecting turtle eggs from predators, both human and animal. There is no air conditioning, hot water, or proper showers, as the focus is on the conservation mission rather than comfort.
Over time, the site has opened its doors to visitors seeking a unique experience, and while efforts have been made to make the stay more comfortable, it cannot be compared to a hotel or homestay in the city. Visitors often leave with unforgettable memories of this rare and special opportunity.
DAY 2: RELEASING BABY TURTLE AT THE SUKAMADE TURTLE BEACH – HOTEL IN BANYUWANGI AREA (B, L)
Start the day with an early breakfast in the Sukamade Beach area. At approximately 7:00 AM, you’ll have the memorable opportunity to release baby turtles (hatchlings) into the ocean, helping them begin their journey in the wild.
Afterward, enjoy exploring the serene surroundings of Sukamade, a peaceful area with minimal human presence. You can take a refreshing dip in the river where the locals also use the river for their bathing or clean themselves before departing for Banyuwangi.
The journey back to Banyuwangi takes approximately 4–5 hours. Along the way, stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Banyuwangi, marking the end of the tour. Tour services completed.
