TOUR ITINERARY
SURABAYA – IJEN CRATER – MOUNT BROMO – SURABAYA (3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS)
DAY 01: SURABAYA – ACCOMMODATION IN MOUNT IJEN AREA (BONDOWOSO TOWN)
On the first day of the tour, we will meet you at your hotel in the Surabaya area at 9:00 AM, if you are arriving via Surabaya Airport or Surabaya Gubeng Train Station, we can adjust the pickup time based on your arrival in Surabaya but we recommend the time before midday.
From Surabaya, we’ll drive approximately 6 hours to the Bondowoso area near Mount Ijen. Along the way, you’ll enjoy scenic views of rural landscapes, small towns, rice fields, plantations, and even some coastal areas.
We will reach your accommodation in Mount Ijen (Bondowoso area) in the late afternoon or early evening. Then, stay overnight before you enjoy the trekking in Ijen Crater.
DAY 02: IJEN BLUEFIRE/SUNRISE TOUR – ACCOMMODATION IN THE MOUNT BROMO AREA
Your Ijen Crater adventure begins at around 00:00 AM. Our car will take you to Paltuding, the starting point of the trek, passing through lush plantations and dense rainforest. The journey from the hotel takes approximately 2 hours.
From Paltuding, a 2-hour hike will lead you to the peak of Ijen Crater, standing at an altitude of 2,385 meters above sea level. From there, you’ll descend into the crater to witness the incredible blue fire phenomenon, a rare natural spectacle found only in two places worldwide: Ijen Crater and the Dallol Volcano in Ethiopia. Since the blue fire fades with the arrival of daylight, you’ll need to be there while it’s still dark—an unforgettable experience.
Around 4:30 AM, you’ll ascend back to the crater’s peak to watch the sunrise. From this vantage point, you’ll be captivated by the breathtaking views of the crater, including the turquoise-colored acid lake. The picturesque scenery offers stunning photo opportunities.
In addition to the natural beauty, you’ll see the hardworking sulfur miners. These miners descend into the crater to extract yellow sulfur rocks and carry loads of up to 80 kilograms along steep and hazardous paths.
After enjoying the enchanting scenery at Crater of Ijen Crater we will go down to the parking area where our car will be waiting to escort you back to the hotel then we will continue to the next destination, that is Mount Bromo, we will drive to about 4-5 hours with some stops for lunch or minimart.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Blue Fire/Blue Flame Phenomenon at Ijen Crater
The Blue Fire, a rare and extraordinary natural phenomenon at Ijen Crater, is caused by the combustion of sulfuric gases ignited at high temperatures. However, it’s important to note that the Blue Fire is not always visible. There are times when it may not appear at all or remain invisible for extended periods due to changing natural conditions.
Please keep in mind that this is a natural phenomenon and is beyond human control.
DAY 03: MOUNT BROMO SUNRISE TOUR – TRANSFER TO SURABAYA (HOTEL, AIRPORT, TRAIN STATION)
The Mount Bromo tour begins at around 3:00 AM. If you’re visiting on a weekend, we recommend starting earlier to avoid crowds. Your jeep will take you to Kingkong Hill or nearby (because there are few viewpoints just made by the locals to split the crowds), but Kingkong Hill is the most famous viewpoint in the Mount Bromo area. From here, you’ll witness East Java’s most stunning sunrise, with a breathtaking panorama of mountains and volcanoes in the background.
After sunrise, your jeep adventure continues to the Sea of Sands within the Mount Bromo area. At the parking area, you’ll have the option to cross the sandy plain on foot or by horseback (you should pay by yourself, costs around 300.000 IDR) to reach the base of Mount Bromo. From there, climb the stairs leading to the crater’s rim, where you’ll experience incredible volcanic activity and mesmerizing views from the top.
Once you’ve enjoyed the sights and atmosphere, return to your jeep, which will take you back to the hotel. Enjoy breakfast, freshen up, and pack your belongings. After loading your bags into the car, we’ll head to Surabaya, with options to drop you off at your hotel, the airport, or the train station. The drive to Surabaya takes approximately 3–4 hours.

OPTIONAL PROGRAM: VISIT TO MADAKARIPURA WATERFALL
If you’re feeling up for an additional adventure after the Mount Bromo sunrise tour and the weather allows, you can visit the amazing Madakaripura Waterfall on your way from the Mount Bromo area to Surabaya. This breathtaking waterfall is a hidden gem and well worth the detour, but the cost is not included yet, so additional costs will be applied.
