TOUR ITINERARY
YOGYAKARTA – BOROBUDUR SUNRISE TOUR – YOGYAKARTA (3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS)
DAY 1: YOGYAKARTA – ACCOMMODATION IN BOROBUDUR AREA
Your tour begins with pick-up from Yogyakarta International Airport, your hotel, or the train station. Our staff will meet you upon your arrival or at your hotel at 10 AM. From there, we’ll drive approximately 1.5 hours to your accommodation near the Borobudur Temple area. Once you arrive, you’ll check in and spend the night there, preparing for your Borobudur Temple tour the following morning.
If you start earlier, we can explore a few additional spots on the first day to save time on the second day. The visit to Borobudur Temple can also be adjusted to either the late afternoon of the first day or the next morning, offering flexibility based on the conditions and preferences during your trip.
IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE BOOKING THE TRIP:
There will be no sunrise/sunset tour anymore on the top of the temple and no one is allowed to visit the top. From now on, we can only hike up & see the BOROBUDUR TEMPLE with a specific ticket and we will handle that ticket if you book with us. For sunrise, we will go to Setumbu Hill or Dagi Hill, the difference between these hills, can be seen on the itinerary below.
On Monday, Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, and Sultan Palace are closed; Sultan Palace is only open until 14:00.
DAY 2: SUNRISE IN SETUMBU HILL – BOROBUDUR TEMPLE TOUR – KALIADEM MERAPI JEEP ADVENTURE – ACCOMMODATION IN YOGYAKARTA AREA
The second day of the trip will start at 4:30 a.m. from your stay in the Borobudur Temple area, and we will go to Setumbu Hill to watch the sunrise. Setumbu Hill is a viewpoint situated to the northwest of Borobudur, and it offers a stunning panoramic view of the temple, mountains, and its surroundings. This hill is very famous for some photographers because you can see the top of Borobudur temple at sunrise (if the weather allows).
Upon your arrival around 5:00 AM, our local team will help you navigate the best viewpoints on Setumbu Hill, Setumbu Hill is not a difficult hike, the trek takes about 10 minutes from the parking place, and you should reach the viewpoint just before sunrise.
Once you’ve reached the viewpoint on Setumbu Hill, you can enjoy the breathtaking sunrise view of Borobudur Temple and the surrounding landscape. The misty morning atmosphere adds to the mystique of the experience. This is a fantastic spot for photography, so be sure to bring your camera or smartphone to capture the incredible scenery.
After enjoying the sunrise and taking in the beauty of the temple, you can return to Borobudur. You can explore the temple in detail, learning about its history and significance.
Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take your time to explore its intricate stone carvings and reliefs, which depict Buddhist teachings and stories. Additionally, be respectful of the site and its spiritual significance while visiting. This tour provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the architectural and natural beauty of Borobudur and the surrounding area.
Don’t forget to immerse yourself in the local culture, interact with the people, and taste local Javanese food and snacks in the area.
Note: For now, we are only allowed to stay on the top of the Borobudur Temple for an hour, because they limit access to the top of the temple to avoid mass tourism and destruction of the temple itself.
After the trip, we will back to our hotel, to have breakfast and take a shower before continuing our next tour, which is Mount Merapi from Kaliadem Village, we will drive around 1,5 hours to the Merapi Mountain area to get our local jeep for exploring the former of eruption and the viewpoint of the magical of Mount Merapi, the explore will last around 2 hours. For lunch, we will recommend tasting local food at the local restaurant. Around late afternoon, we will drive to your hotel in the Yogyakarta area & free leisure.
DAY 3: ACCOMMODATION IN YOGYAKARTA – SULTAN PALACE – TAMANSARI WATER CASTLE – PRAMBANAN TEMPLE – CYCLING AROUND PRAMBANAN – AIRPORT IN YOGYAKARTA
Around 8:00 am, we will escort you to visit the special palace in Yogyakarta, we call it Sultan Palace Yogyakarta, because Yogyakarta is led by the Sultan. Sultan has a big influence on the people in Yogyakarta. And Sultan Palace is one of the must-visit destinations when you are in Yogyakarta, you will see where the Sultan lives, old buildings, and some collections from the past. After enjoying the Palace, we will invite you to visit Tamansari Water Castle, where the Sultan enjoyed time with his empresses before. But now, this place is only used for tourist attraction.
Enough enjoying the water castle, we will drive to Prambanan temple, which is one of the biggest Hindu temples that was dedicated to Shiva in the 10th century. You will be amazed at the beautiful compound of this temple because they didn’t use any cement and they put it orderly. After enjoying the temple, you can explore some temples nearby by Bike that we have prepared for you. When you have done biking in the Prambanan area, we will escort you to the local restaurant before we drop you at the airport.
