THING TO REMEMBER: The natural phenomenon of Blue Fire depends on nature too, when it’s raining we will be not allowed to go down to the mining point where the blue fire comes up. When the smoke is too much around the crater, we cannot see the blue fire. Sometimes it’s also not visible at all.
- Return to your hotel or homestay for breakfast and prepare for the next leg of the journey.

Around 4 hours in, we’ll stop in Rajegwesi Village for lunch. From there, switch to a local jeep for the final stretch, which takes 1–1.5 hours through lush rainforests and river crossings. Upon arrival, you can explore the tranquil surroundings and, if the weather allows, enjoy a stunning sunset on Sukamade Beach. Optional Stop: Green Bay (Teluk Hijau) Weather permitting, we’ll make a 2-hour stop at Green Bay, a hidden gem with pristine white sand and turquoise waters. This serene beach is perfect for swimming or simply soaking up the sun. A 20-minute downhill trek is required to reach the beach.
- Evening: Turtle Nesting Observation
After dinner at your guesthouse, the highlight of the day awaits. At 8:00 PM, guided by rangers from the Turtle Foundation and the Natural Resources Conservation team, you’ll head to Sukamade Beach to observe sea turtles nesting.
The rangers will provide instructions on how to respectfully witness this natural process, ensuring minimal disturbance to the turtles. This rare opportunity allows you to support vital conservation efforts while experiencing the awe-inspiring beauty of nature.
Sukamade Turtle Beach Highlights
Sukamade Beach is one of Indonesia’s most significant turtle nesting sites, hosting four of the six species of sea turtles found in the country.
Witnessing these majestic creatures lay their eggs under the cover of night is a profoundly moving experience. It’s incredible to imagine their journey, traveling thousands of kilometers across oceans, guided by instinct, to return to this very beach to lay their eggs.
Accommodation at Sukamade Beach
Accommodations is simple and basic, prioritizing the conservation mission over comfort. There is no air conditioning, hot water, or modern showers, as facilities are designed to support conservation volunteers.
However, this simplicity offers visitors a rare opportunity to connect deeply with nature. While it may not compare to city hotels or homestays, the experience of staying in this unique setting often leaves lasting, unforgettable memories.
Day 7: Releasing Baby Turtles & Transfer to Bali
- Morning Activities Start the day early with breakfast at the Sukamade Beach guesthouse. At around 7:00 AM, take part in a heartwarming activity: releasing baby turtles (hatchlings) into the ocean. Witness these tiny creatures embark on their life’s journey, a rare and meaningful experience. Afterward, enjoy exploring the peaceful surroundings of Sukamade. Take a refreshing dip in the nearby river, a spot often used by locals for bathing, before beginning your return trip.
- Transfer to Banyuwangi & Bali The drive back to Banyuwangi takes approximately 4–5 hours. Along the way, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Once in Banyuwangi, you’ll board a ferry for a 1.5-hour crossing to Bali.
